Background
Home to the former Studebaker automobile plant and Singer Sewing Machine operations, South Bend experienced a downturn in the 1960’s when many industrial manufacturers moved offshore and Studebaker closed its doors. In an effort to attract new businesses, developers are now revitalizing properties like the old Studebaker plant, known as “Ignition Park” which focus on drawing more technology and medical businesses to the area. As a result, the city has seen a growth in population, with technology and medicine sectors leading the growth.
